Hi everyone. Welcome to the first installment of me sharing stuff on the internet that I’ve either enjoyed, questioned, or am too lazy to write myself (yet).
As for the frequency of these posts…who knows. I don’t want to commit myself to anything regular, but knowing me, you can probably assume it will become that way.
If You Only Read One
The first post is one I’ve had on my mind to promote since reading it way back in September of 2019. It made me cry, straight up. Brace yourself for this incredible post by the FI Old Guys: My 16 Year Old Won’t Say I Love You.
The Quarantined Life
One of my all-time favorite pro climbers and recent interviewee Paige Claassen posted this well-crafted video to her Instagram page. This one will (might) make you feel better: The Ultimate Project.
What It’s Like Living with COVID-19
Because it can’t be ignored, this is a must-read post by Paula Pant (Afford Anything): I’m 36 and I Tested Positive for Coronavirus: My So-Called “Moderate” Case is Brutal. This one is a reminder to us all. This thing is far from over, and please don’t let your guard down.
What About An Emergency Fund?!
Getting back to straight money talk, I’ve received a handful of emails and comments about “cash” emergency funds. For what it’s worth, we have one, and it’s probably way too big (two years’ worth of living expenses!). That’s Mrs. CC for you, but her cautious wisdom has proven fruitful more times than not. I am not worthy. Here’s an interesting piece on the subject from the White Coat Investor: Are Emergency Funds for the Weak Minded?
Should We Be Climbing?
Whether or not to climb during the pandemic has been one of the most polarizing and divisive issues I’ve seen in my decade in the sport. It’s best to avoid the forums, but the Access Fund has published a guide to climbing during the pandemic.
A Great Book
Finally, I read a really great book lately. I saw David Sedaris read some of his material in October of 2019, and he always finishes each show by recommending a book. I always take note, because I love Sedaris’ work, so why wouldn’t I love what he recommends? To get away from all the nonfiction, I suggest you check out The Dutch House, a fantastic novel by Ann Patchett.
I’d love to hear your thoughts on the content provided. Also, is this a good thing? Do you want more emails in your inbox or is once-weekly already enough from me? Let me know in the comments below or via the Contact Page.
